Everyone else is doing it...

Well, it seems it's finally my time to jump into the tangle of the web...web log that is. I just today broke into the world of cable internet and cable tv. Not too bad. Only took me 10 years to bite that particular bullet. I've also made the modern leap of disconnecting my home phone line, relying now soley on my cell phone. Scary.

I have to admit that after the cable guy left (having run more than 40 feet of cable around my 15 square foot apartment) I felt like having my own Titanic moment and yelling, "I'm king of the World!!". Lame? Maybe. But to be honest, I did do a little "yeah me" dance while flipping through the 30 plus crystal clear channels of the Chinese, Spanish, and Indian Home Shopping Networks.

I digress.

So, now I am a blogger.

My main objective here is to give a glimpse into the life of me. A lot of people, some of my family included, don't always get what I do, where I'm doing it, or if I'm doing it.

Tune in when you want and see a bit of what Valerie does. I'm sure this may turn into a bit of a rant, but I'll blame any rantings on my passion for the work that do. Passion is good, right?

So, I'll leave my opener with this: My name is Valerie. I am a stage manager. I work mostly in the field of opera, theater and dance. I work backstage, behind the scenes, doing my best to get the things the director wants to happen, to happen. I also dabble in event management and oddly enough, jewelry making.

My goals in life are to love what I do and get paid for it (so far so good), get a dog (not quite coinciding with the job thing) and to be the best aunt ever...still working on that one as my memory for birthdays is sadly lacking, as reminded by my good friend Cristina who seems to know my family better than I, as evidenced by a phone call from my nieces on my birthday: "Happy Birthday!! Where is Cristina?"

Join me to see if I can accomplish my goals.

(short for Valerie, VK, Valeria, uh you there, and stage management (for those directors who can't seem to remember a name except their own).
